Wedding : Ahmed & Zara

Wedding | Wedding Dubai

June started with Ahmed and Zara’s Henna Function at the amazing Intercon, Festival City, Dubai where the staff and service are impeccable. I simply loved the ethnic Pakistani outfits the ladies wore and the grace with which they carried their shararas . The accessories for the henna function were so colorful, especially the beautiful Mehndi baskets and favor pouches that were handmade in Pakistan.  The flower jewellery made from fresh flowers was especially flown in from Karachi to adorn the bride. The ballroom was bathed in pink lighting and the fragrance of sweet smelling jasmine made it the perfect setting for this function.

The festivities went on past midnight and DJ Zubair played soulful remixed versions of Sufi songs and synced with the Dhol Players. Ahmed entered with his entourage of friends in a stylish Pakistani Pathani Suit and Zara looked angelic in her shimmering JODA that sparkled with beautiful embroidery. Two days later, I find myself in the gorgeous Armani Hotel setting up the ballroom for the Valima (Wedding Reception) of Ahmed & Zara. The Armani is so stylish and it’s really a great designer experience doing an event there. The couple had their Nikaah ceremony at home. And this was the reception. Ahmed’s sisters played a huge part in making both the functions special for him and for the reception they chose a palette of ivory and peach with a touch of gold. Not to forget the selection of the lavish menu on both the days. Ahmed and Zara entered to the music of Wedding March led by a saxophonist and violinist. Ahmed looked immaculate in a black suit and gold tie and Zara glowed in a peach Pakistani lehenga with a beautiful bouquet complimenting her dress. Her makeup was flawless and was done by Fizah, a young makeup artist trained in UK, extremely passionate about her work. The cake cutting was the highlight of the evening. Rida from Sweetest Affair baked the stunning cake which had crystal strings, delicate gold lace detail accented with a sworovski brooch and lined with a garland of beautiful blooms. When the cake came down on a hydraulic chain from the hidden cube above I could see everyone clicking pictures of it on their cell phones. But this is one cake only the cou0ple can cherish as it promptly goes back into the cube after the cake cutting.

The setting was classy and romantic. Tall acrylic vases of hydrangeas, tulips, roses and touch of peach carnation topped the tables. They were interspersed with lower similar displays. The spectacular lighting bounced off the walls creating an amber hue. Zubair’s lounge music selection made the evening extra special. Thank you Olesya, Flower Boutique and Focus for the teamwork and making this evening a memorable one for the couple (and for me). The last week has been desert camp hunting for a wedding in March. It has not been easy locating a suitable camp in the desert which is authentic and at the same time grand for the very first function of the upcoming wedding– The Welcome Dinner for 400 guests flying in from all parts of the world. Still searching for the perfect one! Today had a great meeting with a Rima Darwash, a graphic designer and photographer from UK, featured in Asiana Magazine. Although Milli and Sid Ghosh of Memories in Motion are my favourite team of cinematographers,   I did like Rima’s work. It’s simple, out of the box and modern. Her website is
